Lancet Publishes Commentary on Centering Agency in Adolescent Health

 In GEH Blog

Date: October 15, 2023

Authored by Research Scientist Nandita Bhan of the Jindal School of Public Health and Human Development and GEH’s Assistant Professor Lotus McDougal, PhD, the commentary “Centring agency and norms to meet the health needs pregnant adolescents” is a response to the systematic review, “The forgotten girls: the state of evidence for health interventions for pregnant adolescents and their newborns in low-income and middle-income countries.” Both were published in October 2023 in the Lancet under Health Policy, Volume 402.

Dr. McDougal reflects on the value of this work: “Meeting the needs of the 21 million adolescents who become pregnant each year in low- and middle-income countries requires recognition of the power imbalances, restrictive norms, and compromised agency with which many of these girls live.”
